TiLT: in which I notice how much my family drinks
Team! It has been a full and busy week. Lots has been accomplished, and there is much to love. Let’s make a list, shall we?
- Unexpectedly fantastic French food in Georgetown at Bistro Francais — you never expect a place with an early bird special to be flipping gourmet, oh but it is…
- Finding out my dad is a big fan of absinthe (weird, eh?)
- Having a beer and wings date with Nimby and Tweeting all through it with our friends… because we are geeks, ya’ll. No changing that.
- Introducing my little sister-in-law to Ikea and having her come home with a bunch of sweet frames for her dance certificates
- The Nervous Breakdown’s new look — so snazzy.
- Emilie Surrusco’s incredible reported nonfiction work “Under the New Mexico Sky” — Emilie is a good friend of mine, and she’s an extraordinary reporter. Fair warning: some parts of this story are graphic and disturbing, but the writing is superb. Don’t you just feel honored to know some people sometimes?
- Afternoon drinks with my parents at McGarvey’s pub in Annapolis.
- Jaka Merriman’s post “The Beauty of Ugly” — Oh, Jaka, you never cease to entertain and inspire. The Beauty of Ugly is kindof like living in the ghetto so you will know better than to refer to any decent apartment down the line as “ghetto” when it’s really just fine.
- This quiz on the 100 most commonly used English words
- Much Ado About Nothing as presented by Timothy Douglas at the Folger Elizabethan Theatre. DC is such an amazing place for stuff like this, and I was thrilled to be able to bring my parents to see something so unique.
- Putting together our fabulous red kitchen, even though I had doubts about the color at first. It’s now well on the way to becoming recognizable as a kitchen.
- And finally, anything plus vodka at the end of a day like the one I just had.
Phew! Ok, time to go unwind before I go crash extra hard in preparation for tomorrow. Roar!
But WAIT! There’s MORE!
- Celebrity Puppets on TMZ
- Jesus Was a Capricorn from Mystic Medusa
- The Beverly Cleary Quiz on Mental Floss
- AND AND AND AND The Vatican Says Aliens May Be Free From Original Sin! (Also, they might exist, thus says the Pope. Amazing!)
… and I’m spent. Goodnight.

Aw, shucks. It really means a lot to me that you like my writing. I’m a terrible commenter, but I’m a big fan of your CNF, so the fact that you praise anything I write makes me all smiley. <3
