What a writer needs
I need a little literary angel to stand on my shoulder and remind me daily:
You have a lot of lessons to learn and a lot of writing to do, so get busy.
Open your eyes.
Write more.
Don’t get ahead of yourself.
Have patience.
Expect to fail now and then.
There are do-overs, but there are no do-overs.
In other words, try again.
It doesn’t matter how many times you try.
Do you love it? Then do it.
Don’t waste time on what doesn’t serve you.
Always be learning.
Always be growing.

If you haven’t already, I also highly recommend reading the other writers on TNB. They inspire me pretty hard. Here are some of my latest favorites.
This is My First Novel by Greg Olear on the release of his first (published) book, and everything that came before.
My Fathers’ Daughter by Rachel Zients Schinderman – be prepared for tears.
The Overnight from Lisbon by Thomas Wood starts out with an explanation of how much he loves to tell this story, and it shows.

I loved your TNB pieces. And these reminders — I think I need that literary angel too. I think we all do. The best I can do, is lean on folks like you to be my little writerly Jiminy Crickets, and maybe return the favor now and then.
